Mr Vinon Menon graduated from University of Kerala (India) in 1989. He completed his basic and higher surgical training on the All Wales Surgical Training Programme and was appointed as Consultant Upper Gastro-intestinal & Laparoscopic surgeon at the University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire NHS Trust in September 2002. He has been the clinical lead for oeosphago-gastric cancer surgery since 2004 and has led the team in evolving as a key cancer treatment centre with excellent outcomes, fully comprehensive multi-disciplinary service including patient and user participation as well as focus groups.
In 2008 he took on the lead role of developing a bariatric service for Warwickshire in 2008. Over the last 9 years he has established a fully integrated Tier 3 & 4 service, performed nearly 600 operations with excellent outcomes as reported on the National Bariatric Surgery Registry (NBSR). Mr Menon have been an elected member of Council of British Obesity & Metabolic Surgery Society (BOMSS) in 2012 and has recently been elected as Honorary Secretary (2017-2020) having previously held the role of Honorary Treasurer (2014-2017)
For the last 9 years he has been Clinical Director for surgical services and has been appointed as Honorary Associate Clinical Professor at the University of Warwick with a range of academic and research commitments including presentations & publications. He examines for the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and also member of Council of Association of Upper GI Surgeons of GB & Ireland (AUGIS)
Mr Menon is determined to ensure that safe bariatric/metabolic surgery is readily available in accordance with NICE guidelines and is committed to empowering people affected by obesity to access the best possible care.
